Heat has long been used for the treatment of injuries: not only can it ease
pain but it can also have a definite effect on the healing process.

Through the use of Equine Sport Therapy Thermoskin products it is possible
to utilise the effect of heat not only at rest but more importantly
during physical activity. EST Thermoskins act as an insulator of the horses
body heat. It accumulates this heat and reflects it back, thus increasing
the temperature of the area beneath.

For the performance horse an efficient warm up programme is essential
to prevent muscle injury once hard exercise has begun. Proper warm up prior
to exercise heats the muscle, increasing it's elasticity. The
collagen fibres making up the ligaments and tendons also have increased
stretchability when heat is applied. In short warming an area increases
flexibilty thus reducing the likelihood of damage when the
muscles, tendons and ligaments are asked to work to their full potential.
